Leon Boros BA (Hons) FCA Managing Director
Leon is an Economics graduate and winner of the prestigious National Lord Kings Norton award for Economics for his ground breaking research on the financing of employee owned companies.
Leon is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales having trained with Ernst and Young in its tax and audit departments.
At the age of 29, Leon co-founded Capital Strategies Ltd, a corporate finance boutique specialising in arranging buyouts, trade sales, originating corporate transactions, share valuations and designing and implementing employee share plans. Leon gained extensive exposure to privatisation, outsourcing, education, recruitment and transport.
During his career, Leon has managed or originated corporate transactions with an aggregate value in excess of $1bn in the mid-market arena. His largest corporate transactions to date have been the £100m purchase by Capita plc of IRG Ltd, the £100m IPO of Benchmark Holdings plc, a leading animal health company, and the recent reverse takeover of INVE Aquaculture by Benchmark for $342m.
In 2000, Leon co-founded Myshares Ltd with Nigel Mason (see below), raising in excess of £4m from 3i plc and a trade partner. Myshares acquired the market leading software for the administration of executive share plans from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries. Myshares was sold in 2001.
Leon is well-known private investor and was until recently a non-executive director of ShareSoc, a not-for profit organisation, which promotes the interests of private investors. He will shortly be publishing an e-book titled "10 key investing lessons from an ISA Millionaire".
Equity Strategies combines Leon’s interest in equity research and investing with his corporate finance skills and creative approach to advising and originating corporate deals.
Nigel Mason BSc (Hons) MA Associate Director
Nigel is an Associate Director of Equity Strategies and Managing Director of Capital Strategies which he co-founded with Leon in 1991. Nigel has extensive experience of employee ownership, in both the quoted and unquoted sectors.
In the quoted company sector, he led the employee share plans business of Lloyds TSB Registrars (now Equiniti), and built its HR Services division. He was a founder director of the Global Equity Organisation, an adviser to ProShare, a non-executive director of the ESOP Centre and policy director of the Employee Ownership Association. In 1999, he was a member of the Advisory Group which designed the SIP and EMI (Enterprise Management Incentive) schemes for HMRC.
In 2010, he conceived, founded and established a new consumer owned domestic energy supplier, Co-operative Energy, which in less than three years achieved good profitability on revenues of £150 million and is now the main challenger to the Big 6 energy companies.
Nigel is an adviser to the John Lewis Partnership on employee ownership and recently advised on the IPO of Benchmark Holdings.Tanya Seeley BSc (Hons) ACA Associate
Tanya is an Associate of Equity Strategies. She has previously worked for Capital Strategies and Grant Thornton Corporate Finance. She qualified as a chartered accountant with PWC and has spent over fifteen years working in the private equity industry, covering corporate finance advice, investment appraisal, fund raising,investor relations and fund administration.
At the Royal Bank of Scotland, Tanya worked in the private equity team for eight years, first as an investment executive and then when the team raised the £1.2 billion RBS Special Opportunities Fund, she created and ran the operations and investor relations function for almost five years.
Tanya co-founded and runs a charity in Cambodia, HOPE, to help young adults who have grown up in orphanages make the transition to independent living. She took six months sabbatical in 2012 to work for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games. Since then she has undertaken a number of project management roles.
Susan Dingley BA (Hons) Research Director
Sue was previously an Assistant Director at Birmingham City Council, where she led the City’s regeneration initiatives and provided policy advice to the Chief Executive. Since returning to work after having a family, Sue ran a successful internet business before joining Equity Strategies.
Sue researches transaction opportunities in the public sector and other markets.
Becky Richardson BA (Hons) Corporate Finance Executive
Becky achieved a first class honours degree in Business Management from the University of York in 2014.
Becky researches transaction opportunities in the corporate sector and undertakes commercial due diligence. Becky was closely involved in Benchmark's recent $342m acquisition of INVE Aquaculture, performing a variety of roles from market research to commercial analysis. She has reviewed the salmon, tilapia and shrimp markets in aquaculture, the Bovine TB market in the terrestrial livestock arena and various database and information businesses in the biotech and education space.
She is a keen runner and traveller.
Sebastien Kirk BSc (Hons) Corporate Finance Executive
Sebastien graduated in 2012 having studied natural sciences at Newcastle University majoring in statistical mathematics and theoretical physics. He subsequently founded a ski information website business based in Switzerland.
Sebastien undertakes market research and detailed financial modelling and forecasting work on potential acquisition targets. Sebastien played a key role in developing and maintaining the financial model used for the recent $342m reverse takeover of INVE Aquaculture by Benchmark.
He is currently enrolled in the CFA program. In his spare time he is a keen runner having completed the Paris Marathon in 2014 and a number of half marathons.
